QR Code Check-In: How Walk-In Clients Can Join Your Queue Before They Walk Through the Door
Mobile check-in lets a client join your queue from outside the salon before they arrive. Here is how it works and why it changes the walk-in experience.
One of the most underused features in modern queue management is mobile check-in — the ability for a client to join the queue from outside the salon, before they even arrive.
Here is how it works and why it changes the walk-in experience for both the client and your team.
The Problem With Traditional Walk-In Check-In
In the traditional model, a walk-in client arrives at your salon, approaches the front desk, gives their name, gets told "about 20 minutes," and either waits in your space or wanders off and hopes for the best.
The problems with this:
- They occupy your waiting area even when the wait is long
- They interrupt staff asking for updates
- If they leave and miss their turn, the slot goes to waste
- You have no record of who walked in, how long they waited, or whether they left
How QR Code Check-In Works
With Trimsy's QR check-in, you display a QR code at your entrance, in your window, or share it on your social media. A client scans it on their phone, enters their name and phone number, selects a service, and joins the queue — without stepping inside.
They see their estimated wait time immediately. They receive an SMS when they are next. They can wait outside, grab a coffee, and return when their turn is close.
What This Changes for Your Business
Your waiting area stays clear. Clients only come inside when they are close to their turn, not to sit and wait for 30 minutes in a busy space.
You capture contact information. Every QR check-in creates a client record with a name and phone number — data you would never capture from a walk-in who simply waited in a chair.
Fewer missed turn slots. Because clients receive an SMS nudge when they are next, they are far more likely to be ready than clients watching a clock on the wall.
Your queue is visible from anywhere. Staff can see the full live queue from any device — no shouting across the room, no whiteboard updates.
Setting It Up
In your Trimsy admin panel, go to Settings → Kiosk. Your QR code is generated automatically. Download it, print it on a small card, and display it at your entrance. Some businesses tape it directly to their window so passing clients can join the queue from the footpath.
