How to Process a Sale at Your Point of Sale (POS)
Ring up walk-in sales, take payment, and send or print a receipt in seconds using Trimsy's POS.
What this is
Use the Point of Sale (POS) feature to process cash, card, or other payments for walk-in customers on the spot. You can add items to a sale, apply discounts, collect payment, and instantly email or print a receipt.
When to use it
Use POS when:
- A customer walks into your business and requests a service or product
- You need to take payment immediately
- You want a quick record of the transaction
- You prefer not to create a formal booking
How to process a sale
Go to Sidebar ▸ POS Open the POS screen from your main navigation menu.
Select the customer Search for an existing customer by name or phone number. If they're not in your system, create a new customer record with their details (name and contact information).
Add items to the sale Browse your services or products and add them to the sale. Tap or click each item to include it. If you offer multiple pricing options (e.g., different service lengths), select the appropriate option.
Review the subtotal Check the running total on screen. Confirm all items are correct before proceeding to payment.
Apply a discount (optional) If offering a discount, apply it now. You can typically enter a dollar amount or percentage.
Select a payment method Choose how the customer is paying:
- Cash: Manually record the amount received and enter any change.
- Card: Process the card payment through your payment gateway (if connected).
- Other: Bank transfer, voucher, or custom payment type (if available).
Complete the payment Follow the prompts to finalise the transaction. If paying by card, the system will process it securely.
Send or print the receipt Once payment is confirmed:
- Email: Enter the customer's email address and send the receipt digitally.
- Print: Print the receipt on your connected printer.
- Both: Send and print for a paper copy and email record.
Confirm the sale The transaction is now complete. The customer's record and payment are saved in Trimsy.
Tips
- Keep customers updated: Email receipts give customers a record and can include your business details.
- Reuse customer records: When a regular walks in, search for them by phone number to keep their history.
- Reconcile daily: Review your POS transactions at the end of each day to reconcile cash and card payments.
- No internet?: Check if your POS can work offline—some features may be limited until you reconnect.
Troubleshooting
Payment declined? Check your payment gateway connection and the card details. If the issue persists, offer an alternative payment method (cash or bank transfer).
Can't find a customer? Create them as a new customer on the spot—it only takes a few seconds.
Receipt didn't send? Confirm the email address is correct. If the customer prefers a printed receipt, print it immediately.
