Connecting a device to your workspace

You have the app open and it is asking for a workspace address. Here is what it wants, where to find it, and what to do when it will not connect. You only do this once per device.

What the app asks for

  1. 1

    Your workspace address

The part before .trimsy.au. If your admin lives at bright-grooming.trimsy.au, type bright-grooming — the bare name is enough. It is in the address bar of any browser already signed in to your admin.

  2. 2

Confirm it found the right business

The app looks the name up and shows you which business it found. Check the name is yours before continuing — a near-miss on the address can find somebody else.

  3. 3

Name this device, and enter the pairing code

Give the tablet a name you will recognise later — "Front counter", "Door kiosk" — because that is what you will see in the admin when you set its printer or take it offline. Then type the 8-character code from the admin.

Where to get a pairing code

In the admin, on a computer or another device that is already signed in: Settings → Kiosk → Pair a device. That shows a code to type into the tablet.

The code lasts five minutes.

This catches people out more than anything else on this page. If you generate the code, then walk the tablet across the shop and type it in, it may already have expired — and an expired code looks exactly like a wrong one. Generate it with the tablet in front of you, and if it is refused, generate a fresh one before assuming you mistyped.

Pairing a device is not signing in

These are separate, and mixing them up is the other common stall.

Pairing a device

Connects this tablet to your business for a job it does on its own — the check-in kiosk, the counter caller, the waiting-room display. It is not tied to a person, and nobody has to stay signed in for it to keep working.

Signing in to the admin

A person signing in with their email or username to run the business — bookings, the till, customers. That happens in a browser, or in the app once a device is connected. The pairing code plays no part in it.

If it will not connect

It cannot reach that workspace

Almost always the address. Check for a typo, and use only the part before .trimsy.au — not the whole web address, and not your email. If the tablet is on mobile data or a guest network, try your normal Wi-Fi: some guest networks block the connection the app needs.

The pairing code is refused

Generate a fresh one — codes last five minutes. Codes never contain the letter O or the digit 0, nor I or 1, so if you are reading one off a screen those characters are something else. Case does not matter.

It found the wrong business

Go back and re-check the address. Two businesses can have similar names, and the app shows you what it found precisely so this is caught before anything is connected.

The device connected, but it is doing the wrong job

The role — kiosk, caller or display — is chosen on the device after it connects, and can be changed at any time from the device's own home screen. Pairing again is not needed.
