Recommended devices for Queue & POS

The iPads your counter, kiosk and floor run on — which size to buy for each job, how many you'll need, and roughly what they cost.

The device: iPad 11″ or 13″

One app, every role. Pick the size by the job, not the room.

11″
The all-rounder

iPad Air 11″

est. A$999 · from Apple

Light enough to hold through a shift, small enough for a tidy counter. The default for most roles.

  • POS at the counter
  • A staff member calling the queue
  • Clock in / out, and a compact booking stand

The big screen

iPad Air 13″

est. A$1,349 · from Apple

More room and easier to read from a step back. Best mounted, since it's heavier to hold.

  • A fixed customer check-in kiosk
  • A wall-mounted queue display
  • A busy counter that rings up a lot

Rule of thumb: 11″ for anything staff hold or a compact counter, 13″ for fixed kiosks and display boards customers read from across the room. On a tight budget, a base iPad 11″ (est. A$599) is fine for a simple kiosk.

Kiosks scale with the rush. Start with one per entrance, then add one for every ~30 people who check in at your busiest hour, so no one waits to check in.

One caller can run the whole queue. Give each person serving their own device only if they call and manage their own line; otherwise a single shared caller is plenty.

Displays are optional. Skip them for a small room where customers can hear their name, or use a wall TV instead of an iPad for a large one.
