How to Win Back Clients Who Have Not Visited in 3+ Months
Lapsed clients are your lowest-cost acquisition opportunity. Here is a practical re-engagement strategy that works.
A client who visited your salon six months ago and has not been back is not necessarily gone forever. Life gets busy. People move. They tried somewhere else and were not blown away. A well-timed message from you might be all it takes to bring them back.
Who to Target
Export your client list filtered by "last visit more than 90 days ago and at least 2 previous visits." These are clients who were loyal enough to come back at least once — they are far more likely to respond positively than a client who only visited once.
The Message
Keep the re-engagement message personal and brief. Something like:
"Hi [Name], it has been a while since we last saw you at [Salon Name] — we miss you! Your [X] loyalty points are waiting. Book online at [URL] and use code WELCOME25 for $25 off your next visit."
The loyalty points mention creates a sense of ownership (they have something to claim). The discount creates urgency. The personal name makes it feel human, not automated.
The Timing
Send re-engagement messages on a Tuesday or Wednesday morning. Open rates and conversion rates are consistently higher mid-week than on weekends, when people are busy or switching off from work tasks.
The Follow-Up
If there is no booking within 14 days, send one follow-up. After that, move on. Two messages is enough — more starts to feel like spam, which damages your brand and risks clients unsubscribing from communications entirely.
Measuring Success
Track how many re-engaged clients complete a booking and how many come back a second time. A well-executed re-engagement campaign typically converts 15–25% of recipients into a booking. Even at 15%, that is significant revenue from clients you already had a relationship with.
